GROB, a prominent manufacturer of automated systems, has been actively involved in the electric mobility sector for the past eight years. With a strong focus on electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, GROB serves automotive clients worldwide through its six plants, employing over 8,000 people and generating revenues of nearly €2 billion.

DELO Industrial Adhesives, a leading company in the adhesives industry, plays a significant role in the automotive sector, with its adhesives being used in approximately 50 percent of cars globally. Prominent clients such as Mercedes-Benz, Continental, ZF, and Bosch rely on DELO's adhesives. In the context of EV motor manufacturing, DELO's adhesives streamline the process, with the dual-curing properties of DELO DUALBOND providing additional benefits.

GROB's machinery involves multiple stations and encompasses various process steps, including dispensing, magnet insertion, light fixation, heat curing, shaft fitting, cooling, ball bearing fitting, balancing, and magnetizing. The latest rotor assembly systems from GROB incorporate the DELOLUX series of curing lamps for the light fixation of DELO's dual-curing adhesives. This integration offers a turnkey solution, eliminating the need for end users to rely on multiple suppliers.

The machinery is designed for optimal efficiency, minimizing adhesive usage by dispensing as little as 35 mg of product on one side of the slot. The high strength of the adhesive, achieved through the dual-curing process, eliminates the need to seal rotor stacks during heat curing. The assembly setup is further enhanced by quick induction pre-heating, reducing the curing oven time for the rotor. Despite its compact size, the machine can process rotors up to 150 mm in diameter and can be easily integrated into most production lines.

While the setup is designed for seamless integration with minimal modifications, adjustments can be made if required for specific applications. These characteristics make the setup ideal for flexible production with different types of motors, according to DELO product manager Roman Schilcher.

Both DELO (booth 12D23) and GROB (booth 12B10-C11) will showcase this process at the upcoming CWIEME exhibition, the world's largest electric motor manufacturing event, taking place from May 14 to May 16, 2024, in Berlin. Additionally, they will present the topic in a webinar scheduled for May 29, with two different time slots available: 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. CET.
