Agile Analog, a company specializing in customizable analog IP, has announced the successful delivery of its first full always-on IP subsystem. This innovative solution enables an ultra-low-power sleep mode for the next generation of system-on-chips (SoCs).

Agile Analog collaborated with XMOS, a leading fabless semiconductor company, to provide a range of analog IP blocks integrated into a single macro, along with XMOS's digital control system, creating a complete always-on subsystem. The subsystem included Agile Analog's ultra-low-power IP, such as configurable bandgap reference (agileREF), power-on-reset (agilePOR), oscillator (agileRCOSC), comparator (agileCMP), and capless LDO (agileLDO) IPs.

Barry Paterson, CEO of Agile Analog, expressed delight in successfully delivering the always-on IP subsystem for XMOS. He highlighted the power of their Composa technology and emphasized their commitment to close collaboration with customers. The achievement paves the way for further innovation in the development of next-generation SoCs with ultra-low-power capabilities.

Agile Analog's Composa technology is capable of automatically generating analog IP for any foundry and process. Each IP can be configured to meet the customer's specific requirements, optimizing power and performance. The IP can also be digitally wrapped for easier integration.

The demand for always-on IP has grown rapidly over the past decade, driven by the increasing popularity of smart wearable devices and remote monitoring systems. These devices require the ability to remain in a low-power state for extended battery life while quickly waking up to perform essential functions.

Chris Morrison, Director of Product Marketing at Agile Analog, explained that their always-on IP subsystem encompasses all the analog circuitry necessary to minimize quiescent current in always-on applications. This is crucial for developing energy-efficient and responsive SoCs needed for the next wave of smart devices. The collaboration with XMOS, a company focused on pushing boundaries in the industry, was instrumental in the success of the project.

Kevin Dewar, VP Hardware at XMOS, confirmed the positive experience of working with Agile Analog. He noted that unlike standard off-the-shelf solutions, Agile Analog took the time to understand their specific requirements, demonstrating expertise and willingness to go the extra mile. XMOS was impressed with the high-quality IP and the level of technical support provided by the Agile Analog team.
